Mission

Our mission, or put simply, our core purpose, is to be a forward thinking, vibrant, independent, and apolitical charity that aims to deliver value to the industry specifically focusing on two essentials:

Practice with Science in the Agricultural Sector:  The national academic and practical lead, encouraging and stimulating agricultural innovation; knowledge and technology transfer; the application of good science and promoting best practice with emphasis on profitable, as well as sustainable production and land management.

Wider Rural Education, Sustainability and Community Support:  The national lead that actively contributes to the social, cultural and spiritual wellbeing of our rural communities, the countryside in which they live and fostering a greater understanding of farming and countryside matters among the general public and in schools.

Job Description

1.  JOB TITLE Network Engineer

2.  MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

To ensure the reliability and security of the network infrastructure, network servers and user workstations.

To help develop an efficient, effective and secure IT Environment that facilitates the sharing of information, and provides the right tools and services to carry out the day to day business of the Society.

3.  POSITION IN ORGANISATION

4. DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

      Tasks/activities/performance

• Ensure routine maintenance is carried out in accordance with instructions.
• To provide end user support for hardware and software
• To maintain the Cat6 and Fibre Optic cabling infrastructure in the various buildings supported by the IT department.
• To keep abreast of the latest security threats and countermeasures
• To support the Public Wireless hotspots around the site, including provision of specific exhibitor requirements during events
• To ensure Network backups, anti-virus updates and the latest services patches are applied in good time.
• To apply e-mail and security policies to the existing firewalls and e-mail scanning systems.

5. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain and improve competencies through continuous professional development. Participate fully in the Society programme for staff appraisal, review and development, including training
• Work collaboratively with staff across RASE and other partner and like minded organisations.
• Work to administration, communication, environmental, health and safety protocols and policies to ensure that organisational systems and procedures are implemented
• Abide by organisational policies, codes of conduct and practice as described in the Staff Handbook and on the RASE Intranet
• Support and promote diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace
• Treat with confidentiality any personal, private or sensitive information about individual organisations and or schemes or staff etc
• Carry out other associated duties as may arise, develop or be assigned in line with the broad remit of the post

6. PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Essential

• Extensive experience of working in a Microsoft networked environment.
• Creative and enthusiastic "ideas" person.
• Hands-on approach to seeing projects through to delivery.
• Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.
• Well developed written and oral communication skills.
• Organisational skills.
• Good inter personal skills, team player with the ability to work with other internal teams.

Desirable

• Experience of a change environment
• Microsoft MCSE
• A graduate degree in IT
